Cannabis industry conservation nonprofit adds three to board; continues national expansion
Resource Innovation Institute focuses on additional recruitment in Washington, California and other states legalizing recreational cannabis
Portland, Oregon –October 25, 2016– The Resource Innovation Institute (RII), whose mission is to promote and quantify energy and water conservation in the cannabis industry, is expanding its board as the organization extends its service nationally, according to RII executive director Derek Smith.
The recent additions to its board of directors include the following Oregon and Colorado industry pioneers:
Sara Batterby, CEO of Hifi Farms – Founding chair of Portland chapter of Women Grow, former Bay Area venture capital executive and sustainability branding expert, native of Gloucestershire, England
Jesce Horton, CEO of Saints Cannabis – Owner of Panacea Valley Gardens cultivation center, cofounder of Portland dispensary of the year (Panacea - Weed Blog, 2015), cofounder and board chair of Minority Cannabis Business Association, former Certified Energy Manager and electrical engineer with Siemens, native of Florida and Georgia
Kayvan Khalatbari, Founding Partner of Denver Relief Consulting – Board member of National Cannabis Industry Association, partner in longest continuously operating cannabis business in Colorado until its sale to Willie Nelson in 2016, long-time cannabis activist and advocate, engaged community leader, successful entrepreneur, architectural engineering graduate, born in Lincoln, Nebraska
"We convene industry leaders to promote best practices, achieve conservation outcomes and enhance the reputation of the cannabis industry,” Smith said. “We're excited to infuse our strategic direction with the insights of Sara, Jesce, Kayvan and other national leaders from a variety of geographies and disciplines who are joining us in advancing a resource efficient future for the industry."
Following its Cannabis Energy + Water Summit, held this past September in Seattle, the organization is also vetting board candidates from Washington. Further, it is seeking candidates from California and the other states coming online for adult use.
The Resource Innovation Institute (RII) promotes and quantifies energy and water conservation in the cannabis industry. As an objective, research-based, nonprofit partner, we help the legal cannabis sector achieve sustainability outcomes, advance constructive industry oversight and generate increased profitability and market differentiation.
